Core Responsibilities

Migration Planning & Analysis

  • Assess source and target database environments
  • Analyze schemas, data structures, constraints, and dependencies
  • Identify compatibility issues between platforms (e.g., Oracle → SQL Server)
  • Create migration strategy (full migration, phased, incremental, etc.)

Data Extraction & Transformation

  • Write complex SQL queries for data extraction
  • Develop transformation scripts to align data structures
  • Cleanse and normalize data before migration
  • Map legacy fields to new schema designs

Migration Execution

  • Perform data transfers using:
    • ETL tools
    • Custom SQL scripts
    • Data pump / export-import utilities
    • Cloud migration tools
  • Monitor migration jobs for errors and performance issues

Validation & Testing

  • Reconcile record counts and data integrity
  • Validate constraints, indexes, triggers
  • Perform performance benchmarking
  • Support UAT (User Acceptance Testing)

Post-Migration Support

  • Troubleshoot issues
  • Optimize queries and indexing
  • Ensure backup and recovery processes
  • Provide documentation and handover
